2017-2018 Master of Fine Arts (MFA) Student Exhibitions

Taylor Klover is from Hiawatha, Kansas, and received her BA in Visual Communication from Kansas Wesleyan University. Interested in the power of imagery as a communication tool, Klover has explored ways in which brands communicate with their audience on a more personal level through the process of storytelling techniques and methods. Investigating literary and visual moods of storytelling, Klover has created an extension of her findings through Cultivate. The show communicates the importance of self-sustainability through growing one's own food and looks to provide a sense of inspiration for those interested in connecting with their food and health in a more direct manner. Cultivate additionally aims at spurring dialogue around such issues as self-sustainability and food insecurity. The exhibition is presented as part of the Master of Fine Arts Degree requirements.

The Mark A. Chapman Gallery on the first floor of Willard Hall opened in 2005. Cheryl Mellenthin and Mark Chapman funded a complete renovation of the former Willard Hall Gallery, increasing the exhibition space to over 1,400 square feet along with 400 square feet dedicated to exhibition preparation and kitchen facilities. The Department of Art hosts BFA and MFA student exhibitions in the gallery as part of graduation requirements each semester. The technology friendly gallery serves not only exhibition purposes, but also provides a location for an active Visiting Artist lecture program.

Taryn Hampton is originally from Chicago, Illinois, and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from DePauw University where she studied studio art and computer science. She is now completing her final semester in Kansas State University's Masters of Fine Arts program, concentrating in digital and experimental media. She is interested in the relationships between physical and virtual spaces and explores these through her works with social media. Benjamin Ingle is originally from Gainesville, Florida, and received his BFA in Painting from the University of Florida, where he won multiple painting awards. A husband and father, Ingle works in techniques of painting and printmaking in order to create images that are extensions of his emotive experience. The Unknowable Moment explores the importance of adversity and failure in growing and transforming one's beliefs and sense of being. Through persistent and diligent work, the artist illustrates his journey of failure and success in search of an essence and understanding of life while living in Kansas. Works in the exhibition are informed by Ingle's experiences of fatherhood and the Kansas landscape.
