To be admitted as a graduate student in the M.F.A. program, the applicant must have a B.A., B.S., or B.F.A. degree from an accredited institution, adequate undergraduate education in the visual arts, an undergraduate average of B (3.0) or better in the last 60 semester credit hours from the last college or university attended. The applicant should have at least 60 credit hours in art with 20 credit hours in the proposed area of concentration, or a portfolio appropriate for undertaking an advanced art degree program. Areas of concentration accepting applications for Fall 2025 include: ceramics, digital/experimental media, drawing, graphic design, painting, photography, and printmaking.

All international students applying to the M.F.A. program must meet the same level of achievement as US students.

Once all application materials have been submitted and reviewed, the applicant will be notified by mail.

Deadlines: All application materials must be received in the Department of Art on or before the following deadlines:

  • US Citizens, Permanent Residents:

The Application Deadline is January 16, 2025, for the following Fall Semester.

  • International Applicants:

The Application Deadline is January 8, 2025, for the following Fall Semester.

Application: Application is through the Graduate School. There is a $50 fee for US Citizens and Permanent Residents, and a $75 fee for International applicants.

All applications will include the following:

  1. Portfolio: 15 images of recent work. Include title, date, media, and size. Combine all images and image information into one pdf file.

  2. Statement of Intent.

  3. 3 Letters of Recommendation (uploaded directly by recommenders via automatic email prompt).

  4. Letter of Interest in teaching.

  5. 1 Unofficial Copy of Transcript in PDF format, from all colleges and universities attended.

 

International applicants will also submit :

  1. Affidavit of Financial Support
  2. Results from one of the following English exams:
    1. English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL IBT)
    2. International English Language Testing System - academic exam (IELTS)
    3. The Pearson Test of English
