Bio

Spencer Cheek is an artist and educator working primarily in clay. They hold a Bachelors of Fine Arts from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (’16) and a Masters of Fine Arts from Alfred University (’24). His career in ceramics has taken them around the country, including a two-year post bachelor’s program at the University of Colorado Boulder.

His work investigates figuration and objecthood, with those themes recently being focused through the lens of the mass-produced ceramic figurine. Intuition, research and curiosity are all integral parts of a practice that seeks to move through different materials and processes, positioning ceramics as a physical and conceptual mediator of his exploration.
