Bio

Originally a native of Finland, Mervi Pakaste works as a Professor at Kansas State University, specializing in visual communication design, letterpress printing and artist’s books. Her research interests revolve around traditional letterpress work and handmade Artist’s Books along with publication and poster design.
Professor Pakaste’s letterpress work has been exhibited nationally in the Unites States and internationally at the National Print Museum, in Ireland, Lahti Art Museum and Salo Art Museum, in Finland. Her Artist’s books are part of the permanent collections of Idaho Center for the Book, Otis College of Art and Design and Baylor University Libraries Special Collections. Her poster work has been selected to exhibitions such as: 11th Poster Triennial Trnava in Slovakia, International Poster Designs for the 100th Anniversary of Bauhaus in Turkey, "SHUT UP!: Voice of Democracy in Danger" in Ukraine and Golden Bee 13 Global Biennial of Graphic Design: Special Project 1917-2017. Her work and writing have appeared in HOW magazine, GRAFIA, Creative Quarterly and GD USA.
