Bio

Nick Geankoplis is a practicing artist, educator and maker living in Manhattan, Kansas where he leads the ceramics program at Kansas State University.

Geankoplis' experience in ceramics spans the better part of two decades and has taken his work and research to nearly a dozen countries. His formal education began at Southern Oregon University and continued on at Sierra Nevada College where he received a BFA in Ceramic Art. He completed the terminal degree in the field of studio art, an MFA at the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. After graduating Geankoplis spent four years as an artist and visiting international professor teaching ceramic design for industry at the prestigious China Central Academy of Fine Art, (CAFA) City Design School. Geankoplis maintains a studio in Jingdezhen and regularly returns to China to work and teach.

Geankoplis' practice is at the intersections of ceramic art, industry, and installation and has been exhibited in Museums such as The Glassell School of Art in Houston, the Arizona State University Museum of fine art and the Liling Valley Museum of ceramic art in China. Most recently Geankoplis' work has been solicited for acquisition by the Alfred Museum of Ceramic Art and K-State's own Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art. His work and writings have been featured in numerous publications including Studio Potter and C-File.
