Kreqe-aekyed & Kqrefe-aekyad

Artist: Douglas Abdell

Location: In between Thompson and Nichols Hall

Kreqe-aekyed: Douglas Abdell created this sculpture using simple forms that use flat, upward moving shapes. He was a major part of the minimalist movement and through his work demonstrates his concern for unadorned pieces with fine craftsmanship. This piece is next to another of Douglas’ pieces Named “Kqrefe-aekyad” and they were both created in 1980.

Kqrefe-aekyad: This piece used particular scale that is in proportion with the human figure. In titling his pieces Abdell creates his own unique language. “Kqrefe-aekyad” and “Kreqe-aekyed” were created in 1980 and are consorts to the figurative tradition.
