Digital Arts BFA Exhibition
MANHATTAN —Kansas State University Department of Art will present the Digital Arts BFA Exhibition featuring Chantel White, Courtney Harrington, Dennis Lukowski, Jacob Berthelson, Grady Augustine, Melanie Shoemaker, Manny Gomez, Peter Rails, and Toma Griffey. The BFA show is on May 11th in the Alumni Center Ballroom “C”, from 5pm-9pm.
This event offers visitors an opportunity to discover how years of work have developed this group into the artists that they are today. They are working in a diverse range of digital media including Web development, video game engine experimentation, digital painting, real-time video, and many more. There will also be a group project that should prove to be an extremely unique experience for visitors.
There will be light appetizers catered by Kites, free to all guests! And a CASH only bar for those of you of age to enjoy a beer or red/white wine. Hope to see you there!

Kevin Hamilton to present Artist’s Lecture
Artist Kevin Hamilton to present lecture March 5 in the Town Hall Room of the Leadership Studies Building, Kansas State University
MANHATTAN —Kansas State University Department of Art will present a lecture by artist Kevin Hamilton on March 5, 3:00 pm in the Town Hall Room of the Leadership Studies Building on Kansas State University campus.
Admission is free and open to the public.
Kevin Hamilton holds appointments in the Department of Media and Cinema Studies and in the School of Art and Design at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, where he is an Associate Professor and Chair of the New Media Program. Current solo and collaborative projects include: visualization research for health and energy conservation applications; a critical archive of American nuclear propaganda and training films; a performance series on race and religion in the Colorado Rockies; the re-creation of a lost cybernetic computer from the 1950′s; and a timeline mural on cybernetics research in Illinois. Kevin’s recent publications include essays on public memory, digital pedagogy, and collaboration in the classroom. Recent awards include grants from the National Science Foundation and National Endowment for the Humanities, as well as fellowships at University of Southern California, Cornell University, the Banff New Media Institute, and University of Illinois’ Center for Advanced Study. Born and raised in upstate South Carolina, Kevin later completed his studies in Rhode Island (RISD) and Massachusetts (MIT); he has lived in Urbana, IL since 2002.
This event is a part of the Kansas State University Department of Art Visiting Artists Series for the 2011-2012 Season.

Professors Mike McMann, Digital Arts, and Jason Scuilla, Printmaking, were featured in “K-State Researchers Provide Year Of Intriguing Discoveries.”
Electrifying research leads to safer etching process. Jason Scuilla and Michael McMann, assistant professors of art, wanted to find nontoxic alternatives to the traditional printmaking technique, which involves etching copper plates with acid baths. The two experimented with various alternatives before developing their own method, called Shu-la. Find out more at http://bit.ly/hUVs0d.
