Student’s travel and research experience while in Scotland will be used as a source of inspiration for the development of their future, individual artwork through exploration of the art, culture, history and landscape. Students experience a balance between natural, cultural, and historical features unique to Scotland. To understand Scotland’s wealth of history and tradition of legends and folklore we will take art historical day and overnight excursions throughout central Scotland including a three-day Highland and Isle of Skye excursion.
In the tradition of a long history of visitors like painter J. M. W. Turner who traveled to Scotland finding inspiration in places like the Isle of Skye, you will explore your own art and creative discipline. Studio emphasis will be placed on keeping a sketchbook, written, or photographic journal. Sketchbook/Journal can consist of any combination of drawing, painting, journal writing, architectural studies and photography. Whatever your creative discipline-the journal could be a place for short stories, sketching, architectural studies, collecting unique designs or fabrics.
CREDIT: Upon successful completion of the course, students will earn 3 K-State undergraduate credits for ART 630A. Undergraduate students may have the opportunity to enroll in 3 additional credits for ART 455-B. Graduate students may have the option to enroll in 3 credits in ART 885-01S.
