Bio
Daniel Warner is an assistant professor at Kansas State University and co-principal at Pakaste Warner Design, a micro-studio and research hub for client-based cultural projects, self-initiated creative ventures, and design research and investigation. His creative work involves client-based and self-initiated projects in service to commerce, culture, and the social good, and currently includes collaborative image-novels, identity work, experimental typography, motion shorts, and the evolution of the poster in both its traditional ink and animated digital contexts.
Because habits of experimentation open up new visual territories, Daniel's motion work occasionally mines themes of emerging nanotechnologies, biomechatronics and biomedical engineering. In this vein he is fascinated with the aesthetic and conceptual territories through which we are attempting to navigate the dawn of the bio-tech revolution. An advocate of the cross-disciplinary perspective that animates contemporary design processes and activities, Daniel has also been investigating the potential of the motion poster as a format of expression and channel of visual communication.
Daniel's projects have earned recognition through design awards and publication in industry venues such as CA, Print, Graphis, New Graphic, CQ, Brand New, Slanted, GD USA, and numerous books. Among his professional accolades are the Communication Arts Award of Excellence and Graphis Gold. Daniel's work has been exhibited in a number of museums, galleries, design biennials, and film and animation festivals, and can be found in permanent collections in the U.S. and abroad. His students’ work has recently been recognized in Creative Quarterly, The Dieline, Graphis New Talent and Typography Annuals, Novum: World of Graphic Design, and the 2012 Energy Efficiency competition of posterworks in Berlin.
