Originally a native of Finland, Mervi Pakaste works as an Associate Professor at Kansas State University, specializing in visual communication design and Letterpresses printing. Her research interests revolve around publication and poster design along with traditional letterpress work and handmade books.
Professor Pakaste teaches all levels of graphic design, as well as specialized classes in advertising and poster design. Her letterpress work has been exhibited nationally in the Unites States and internationally at the National Print Museum, in Ireland, Lahti Art Museum and Salo Art Museum, in Finland. Her poster work has been selected to exhibitions such as: VIII International Triennial Of Eco-Poster “THE 4TH BLOCK”, Where’s My Vote? Russia, Graphic Advocacy: International Posters for the Digital Age 2001–2012, and YAKU 4th International Poster Exhibition. Her work and writing has appeared in HOW magazine, GRAFIA, Creative Quarterly and GD USA.
