Assistant Professor of Art – Photography - Kansas State University
The Department of Art at Kansas State University seeks applicants for a full-time tenure track position in the Photography area, beginning August 2013. We seek an exceptional photographer and educator who will join our team of vibrant, creative professionals in studio art, art history and graphic design. The Department emphasizes a strong two-year foundation in traditional practices along with a rigorous exploration of emerging tools and technologies.
Position Summary
Necessary Qualifications: MFA in photography or related field, or equivalent experience, ability to teach wet and digital photography, extensive knowledge of Photoshop and other software specific to editing and digital printing.
Preferred Qualifications: Strong professional work, exhibition record outside of graduate school, evidence of quality teaching at the university level, a solid understanding of studio lighting, camera formats, alternative, wet, digital, and hybrid processes in photography, knowledge of photo history, theory, criticism, good writing / speaking skills, a clear vision for the future of and a willingness to promote the Kansas State University art program. Ability to teach video and interdisciplinary art is a plus.
We seek a candidate who is an outstanding artist and an enthusiastic educator, with a strong desire to enhance the program and to foster excellence in our students as they develop into professional photographers and educators. The successful candidate should demonstrate a commitment to excellence in research, program/curriculum planning and development, and must value working with diverse student populations and cultural perspectives in teaching and research.
The K-State Department of Art confers both BFA and MFA degrees in Photography. The new faculty member's responsibilities include teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level (with a typical 2:3 teaching load), supervising Graduate Teaching Assistants in the photo area and managing the darkroom. As K-State is an international Carnegie 1 High-level research university, responsibilities include, but are not limited to, a high level of creative research accomplishment, teaching excellence, and professional development, as well as participation in departmental and university service. Teaching summer school under separate contract is possible.
